Viewer in the context of museum globalization
PLACE OF ART TEXTS
January 2022 — № 3 — Viewer in the context of museum globalization
The third issue of the Place of Art journal is focused on the system of relations between the museum, the artist’s work, and the viewer where the position of the viewer is chosen as the main reference point. We believe that the process of museums’ growth and globalization in the Russian context conduces to the reduction of alternative exhibition venues in general and the enlargement of existing institutions. At the same time, we observe that alternative points of view are disappearing as well as alternative exhibition venues. Therefore, the authors are wondering how the viewers’ interconnections can be shaped, and how they are included or excluded from the optics of institutions and artists. The issue is based on the materials obtained from the series of seminars held in May-December 2019 in cooperation with the Doctoral School of Art and Design at Higher School of Economics.
The project team is especially grateful to Hélène Volat for her help with English translation.
